basket of different types of french fries

There’s a plethora of reasons to love potatoes: they’re low in calories and high in nutrients, you can make alcohol with them, and – best of all – they give us french fries!

While we love a creamy mashed potato, a roasted garlic potato, and a good old fashioned baked potato, nothing quite compares to the crunchy, salty goodness that is a french fry. Pairing well with sandwiches, burgers, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the Basket Team is almost as wild about french fries as we are about saving folks money.

Recently we caught wind that July 13 is National French Fry Day. As buzz spread in headquarters, we began to hear our fellow Basketeers discuss how they’ll celebrate the date with their favorite type of french fry. And that’s when it hit us: why Jason in finance loves one type of fry, and Brian in business development loves the complete opposite. Your favorite french fry, much like your favorite type of cheese, reveals a lot about your personality.

Let’s dig in to discover what your favorite french fry says about you!

1. Waffle Fries

The more low-key friend. If you love waffle fries, you probably consider yourself an extrovert-introvert. You’re a social butterfly when you want to be, but value your time at home watching true crime dramas and catching up on a good book. Waffle fry lovers will come out to celebrate a birthday, but will most likely need another two months until you’ve recouped enough to make another social outing that large again. However, when you do make an appearance, you really get the party started.

2. Curly Fries

There’s not a dry eye in the house after you get done telling a story – and they’re not sad tears. Your vivacious humor is infectious, and you give people that half-wheezing, knee slapping, sore-stomach kind of laugh. While your humor is one of your most defining characteristics, you’re also incredibly resilient and loyal. Similar to the strength of the curly fry, which gets pulled and uncoiled in all type of directions, you withstand the forces against you to emerge, a well-rounded, valiant individual.

3. Steak Fries

All play and no work can ruin a steak fry-lover’s day. And unfortunately for you, you’re an all business type of person. Your organization and time management skills are unbeatable. You check your email religiously and will leave dinner early to catch a meeting. However, your fast-paced lifestyle can often cause you to miss out on some of life’s smaller, more intimate moments. Take a breath and smell the french fries, friend. Sometimes a slower-paced lifestyle isn’t too bad after all.

4. Classic Cut Fries

Ah, classic cut. A traditional fan-favorite, served in mom and pop milkshake shops, at the baseball game, and most fast food joints across the country. If you love classic cut fries, you have an affinity for the golden oldies. You believe in good old fashioned romance, being polite to your neighbors, and reading a newspaper from time to time. While many might goof on the classic cut fry lover for not being more adventurous with their preferred french fry shape, you hold strong to your beliefs. In your defense, there has to be a reason classic cut fries are called classics – they’ve earned that spot!

5. Shoestring Fries

You allow your imagination to run wild and never lost that child-like wonder for the world. You take life day-by-day, stopping to admire the little things along the way. While steak fry lovers could learn a thing or two from you, you could learn a thing or two from them as well. Your time management and prioritizing skills could use some work. Sometimes you find yourself so caught up in one task, you accidentally neglect the others. Your cheery outlook normally gets you out of most situations, but remember that sometimes the big things matter too.

6. Crinkle Cut Fries

You’re very in touch with your emotions. Just like the peaks and valleys of a crinkle cut fry, you understand how to experience the best of times just as well as you do the worst. This quality has made you very adaptable, and you thrive in a multitude of situations. Likewise, your friends know you to be a dependable figure in their lives. You’re always there to lend a shoulder to cry on or a listening ear. Your loyalty knows no bounds and you’d do just about anything for the ones you love.

7. Sweet Potato Fries

Sweet potato fry lovers are the sophisticated friend. You know how to throw down and have a grand old time, but you’ll show up bright and early to brunch the next morning as if nothing had ever happened. Your clothes are tailored well and you manage to never drop food on your shirt while you eat (how do you manage this?!). While your dedication to sweet potato fries is technically the “healthier” option of digging into some normal potato french fries, at least you still value the savory crunch that accompanies a traditional french fry.

8. “Healthy Fries”

You definitely Instagrammed your healthy fries. The same way you did your green juice, and your latest spin class. While we commend you for replacing the traditional starch of a potato with a healthier zucchini or carrot, we still don’t quite get it. Go big or go home! Lovers of healthy fries probably post about their latest meal-prep plan on Facebook and Twitter. Again, we really respect you for putting your health first! But, we’re probably muting you from our feeds to enjoy our greasy, salty, potato french fries guilt-free.
